NHAI Tenders ₹13.35 Cr Project for Major NH 66 Lighting Upgrade

Ending years of uncertainty over night-time visibility on the Thiruvananthapuram bypass, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited competitive tenders for a major ₹13.35 crore lighting infrastructure project along the Kazhakkoottam–Karode section of NH 66.

 The 41.2-km corridor—a critical artery linking Kerala and Tamil Nadu—currently lacks adequate median lighting. Under the newly issued tender, the selected contractor will supply, install, and maintain a state-of-the-art LED lighting network capable of delivering a minimum illumination level of 40 lux.

Scope of work includes installing 2,232 single-arm and 1,033 double-arm light poles, laying underground cables, setting up feeder pillars, and executing all supporting civil foundations.

"This stretch carries heavy long-distance passenger and freight traffic daily," an NHAI official noted. "Modernizing the highway lighting will dramatically improve driving conditions during bad weather and late hours, substantially lowering accident rates."

Interested contractors can access bid documents online through August 13, with technical bid evaluations commencing August 14. Construction is scheduled for completion within six months of contract award.
